Welcome To My Home Office

Today I am excited to show you how my home office/ craft room is coming along at our new home.
You may remember how I was able to set up my office at the previous house for free!
Well this time it wasn't done for free but, it was done
very inexpensively and I love it!
So, please c'mon in.
Home Office & Craft Room Combination #Ikea
This room sits to the right of the front door. It has double glass doors that keep the room bright and open.  A plus is that when I am working in here I don't feel closed off from the rest of the house. It is also a much larger room giving me more room to get my craft on!

One thing you may notice is the wall color.
In real life it is a pinkish lavender. The previous owners of the home did foster care and this room was used as a little girls bedroom.  The first thing I did was take down all of the Tinker Bell/ Butterfly/ Princess stickers that covered every wall.
Not that there is anything wrong with Tinker Bell/ Butterfly/ Princess stickers, they just aren't my style.

I've just got to say, I love Ikea for office furniture!  The 4x4 Expedit bookcase is one of Ikea's best sellers for a good reason in my opinion!
You will notice a couple of new pieces. We purchased two Malm 4-drawer dressers and put one on each side of the Expedit.
This room does not have a closet so, I desperately needed more storage and these deep drawers are the perfect answer!
On the right I have stored some decor items while the
left one holds my craft supplies.
I like the extra top surface space too for display or, to set my craft paper on as I work.

At the back of the office I have my craft table. Check out that sweet clock!
That was also a find at Ikea. Once we get the room painted a more neutral color I think the clock will really pop!

I kept my desk area pretty much the same as in the past house.
The nicest part is, I can sit here and be able to look out into the dining room whereas before, I had to turn to be able to see out a window.
It just feels so much more open and airy.

See what I mean? (oops, there's Max, heading to the kitchen LOL).
Oh and that secretary in the entry will be replaced with something shorter at some point.

And, if I want more privacy, I can just closed the doors but not feel like I am in a cell!

With as bright as this room is, isn't it surprising that there is only one window? The window looks out to the front door.
The roller shade will be replaced with blinds,(update: blinds are now in!) hung using a level (I swear some people don't even try sometimes LOL).
Max has already come in and laid in his bed while I am working, which tells me, this room meets his high standards of comfort as it does mine!

So, there you have it, another room unpacked and set up!
A new room for me to escape to and get my creativity on!

Now, I seriously mean it when I say I am getting the Fall decor set out and I will be sharing that in the next post!

See you soon!

Another Small Craft Room Update

A few weeks ago I shared with you a little update I had done in
my office/ craft room
www.kathewithane.com
I just couldn't decide what to do with that blank space in the upper left corner.

To be honest, my creativity has been lacking lately.
I'm not sure if it's because it's Spring and I want to be outside but,
the weather isn't quite cooperating, or what.
All I know is that I have had a devil of a time doing anything
but clean and cook.
Now, I do love to cook, but c'mon...clean??
Yeah, I needed to break this cycle and stat!

So, the other day I grabbed my purse and keys
and headed to those meccas of creativity,
Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

I started at Hobby Lobby and aimlessly wondered the aisles.
I seriously was almost through the whole store when
I saw the artists canvases.
I spotted one in a 12"x12" size.
Now, we always hear about starting with a blank canvas right?
That is just what I did!
Luckily for me they were on sale too!

I grabbed one and then headed over to the fabric department.
I didn't want anything too wild but I did want something
a bit hip and in a color to go with my room theme.
Nailed it!
I over bought but then again, I know I'll find use(s) for the remainder.
Again, on sale!!

I then headed off to the new Michaels store just up the street from the Hob and scored on the final pieces I needed for my project.
Not only on sale, but on clearance!

I have to show off the cute binder clips I got too!
I didn't use them for this project but they were
clearance at .99 and were too sweet to pass up at that price!

I cut the fabric into a 16"x16" square and, using just a plain office stapler, attached it to the back of the canvas.
I then added the ribbon by first finding the center
and just winging it from there.

How adorable is that thumb tack? 60 in the package,
in 5 different colors, for .99!
I used a kitchen knife to bend the tacks over they wouldn't pop out.

A simple, yet fun craft to, hopefully, get my creative mojo
back in line don't you think?

And, it fits perfectly!
I plan on filling it up with pictures of my grandson.
Now that will put a smile on my face for sure!

Office/ Craft Room Update

I have a small update to share with you today.
You may remember a few months ago I created a craft/ office space for myself.
Kathe With An E~Home Office/ Craft Room
(Keeping it real here, that coleus plant on my desk?
Yeah, it died...as did that laptop...)
Well in the past few weeks I've made a few changes to the room.
Kathe With An E~Home Office/ Craft Room
I found an awesome large picture frame on clearance at Hobby Lobby.
How it was originally priced at $190.00 is beyond my comprehension
but, at $19.00, it was just what I was looking for at a price I liked much better!

I had a very small window of opportunity in the weather to spray paint it white.

Mr. B added a picture hanging hook on the back and I placed it over my desk.

I used a dry erase board I had, a spice rack from World Market and
a cork board from WalMart (4 for under $6.00 and I still have 3 left!)
to fill inside the frame.
I just used 3M Velcro Command Strips to hold them in place.
Well, except for the spice rack, that got screwed in.
I even used a level (patting myself on the back).

Isn't this spice rack perfect for some of my craft paints??

I'm still thinking about what I will add to the upper left side.
I may use my Silhouette Cameo and put a quote there.
Something to do with creativity?  Thoughts?  Suggestions?

And lastly, check out my new chair!  Ikea to the rescue again!
I love how it fits my back perfectly.  It's so so comfy!
And, it doesn't look like a traditional office chair which is what I was looking for.
The white?  Perfect too!

So, just a few changes but, ones I had been wanting to do
since I put the room together.
I just love spending time in my little creative space!
