You're Gonna Love It - Week 71

Happy Monday evening again dear friends!

I can't wait to see what crafty posts you have to share this week!

I want to thank those of you that have emailed me or left messages on Facebook asking if we have been affected by the massive flooding here in my beloved state of Colorado.

We have had the continuous rainfall and tornado warnings at our new home but, no flooding.  

My heart just cries for my sister and brother Coloradoans that have lost something or, everything. 
It will take a long time for the state to recover and for some, recovery will never come.

On the home front, I have finished setting up furniture and unpacked a few boxes in my office and the dining room.  I will be sharing those rooms with you on Wednesday so check back then.  I am trying to just concentrate on one or two rooms at a time and I have been setting goals for the weekend and just chewing away at them until they are completed.  
This upcoming weekend I plan to get my dishes and other tablescaping tools unpacked and put away.  
Wish my back luck on that chore!

Back to School Crafts with Duck Tape® #sponsored

Hi!  My name is Pam, and I blog over at Pam's Party and Practical Tips. On my blog I share crafts, recipes, fun activities, and of course party ideas. 

I have been friends with Kathe for awhile now, and when she told me that she would need some guest posts during her move, I was more than happy to help out.  One thing that Kathe and I have in common, is our love of decorating at a discount price.  I rarely ever pay full price for anything.  One of my favorite places to shop for craft supplies is the dollar store.  Today I am going to share with you how you can make a fall centerpiece with items from the dollar store.    

On a visit to the dollar store about a week ago, I picked up a dark pumpkin colored plate, 2 cocktail glasses, a clear glass plate, and a glittered pumpkin.   This past weekend I was excited to find my store now has it's full fall shipment in.  I picked up a burgundy plate that was in the store's Thanksgiving section.  I also found a bag of realistic looking leaves.  We also stopped to JoAnns that day, and I found even prettier leaves that were on sale for only $1.19.  

I used the clear plate and one of the cocktail glasses  in the first centerpiece I put together.  I love making my own stands using different color plates and either glasses or candlesticks.  If the centerpiece is only going to be used temporarily, you will  probably be fine without gluing the pieces together. If you want to keep it long term, Gorilla Glue works well on glass.   The pumpkin, and leaves are from the dollar store.  The sunflowers and acorn, pine cone mix I found on clearance for only .30 last year in Target's dollar spot.  When I was at my Target this morning they were just starting to put out their new fall dollar  items. I can't wait to see what they have this year. 

This is how the centerpiece looks with the orange plate.  I think it would look really pretty with some gold accents.  It would be very easy to embellish the pumpkin with some gold metallic or glitter paint. I think I have some in my paint stash, I might have to bring it out. 

If you prefer a more simple look for your decor, the glitter pumpkin makes a statement.

Over the weekend, we found mini pumpkins for only 50 cents at our Meijer store.  I thought they would look great as part of a centerpiece, so we picked up a couple.  I tried them out on the burgundy plate, and I just love how they look.    Every  of these centerpieces cost less than $5 to make, and all of the items can be used for more than one purpose.  Another thing nice about using dollar store items is it is very easy to customize your centerpiece to your own needs, and color scheme.

You're Gonna Love It - Week 70

Hello dear friends!  
Did you miss me as much as I missed you?

I am happy to say that, in spite of some set backs, we have completed our move into the new house. As of noon Sunday, all of our worldly belongings are in the same place!

Now, comes the unpacking.

I did get all of the kitchen and bedroom unpacked and put away, I hope.

We are sore and tired but knowing that the moving part of the process is done makes it all worth while!

I enjoy sitting on the back deck and listening to the silence.

I also enjoy seeing sunrises like this before I head off to work.

But more than anything, I'm looking forward to being back and sharing some posts on the new home!

Before that begins though, let's party!!

Every now and then you get to meet another blogger/ thrifter in person.  I have been lucky to meet up with my buddy Gina from Stampin With Gina not once but twice!  Gina has been kind enough to help with a guest post while we are moving this month.   Please give Gina a warm Kathe With An E welcome!  

Thank you to Kathe for letting me share my love of papercrafting with her readers. I hope she is having a fun, new adventure with minimal stress as the move into their new home. I'm excited to share this little project with you today. With minimal supplies, you can make this cute pouch to put little goodies or a small gift in. All the supplies I have used here are from Stampin' Up! however, you can use substitutes. Here's what you will need:

 

• One sheet of 12"x12" Designer Series Paper (or any scrapbook paper) Cardstock is too thick to use. I used a piece from the This n That DSP.
• Sticky strip
• Washi tape (This n That washi tape)
• Mini Kit Kats

These are additional options that I used:

• Versamark ink pad
• Pewter embossing powder
• Heat tool
• Gorgeous Grunge stamp set
• Scallop punch
• Tangerine Tango cardstock
• Large pearl

I started this project by stamping the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set in Versamark on the Designer Series Paper (DSP), and then sprinkling Pewter embossing powder on the stamped area, flicking off the excess and heat setting with the heat tool.
 
Next, I put stick strip on the "wrong" side of the paper along one side. Then roll the paper into a cone-shape. I shaped the paper before I took the red backing off the sticky strip so that I wouldn't get it stuck somewhere I didn't want it to go. Once you get the cone formed, pull the red backing off the sticky strip and adhere creating a cone shape. You map have to use the tip of scissors or a bone folder inside to help put pressure on the sticky strip to make it adhere to the paper.   Then, line up the point of the cone and bend it over. This will be your sealing flap. Add your goodies to the  inside.
 
Fold over the flap and secure with a piece of coordinating Washi Tape.
Embellish by making a cute little flower from the scallop punches, crinkling them up, adhering them together, and adding a large pearl in the middle.

You can make various sizes of these fun pouches, just cut your paper square (like 8"x8"). These would make great treat packs for those special trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood. Now give it to that special someone to brighten their day.
