Summer Blooms In My Garden

It has been really hot and dry here in Colorado this year.  I'm talking humidity levels in the single digits and temperatures in the mid to high 90's. Luckily, I take our summer weather into consideration when I add new plants to my gardens and use drought tolerant plants as much as I can.

Penstemons are one of my favorites!
I love their small trumpet shaped flowers, as do the bees and butterflies.
They have really taken off for me this year, with dark to light purple blooms.
I like how my red knockout roses that I planted last year poke out among the purple flowers.
And check out the tall lilies!
They are doing really well this year!
I also have some orange lilies planted here and there. I have been dividing them each year and planting them willy nilly wherever I can find a spot.
The Jacob's Beard is also going gang busters!
I know that it tends to self seed like crazy but,
in my wild garden, that's okay :-)
Plus, the Pampas grass behind it keeps it in check for the most part.
The Coreopsis is also spreading well and the dainty yellow flowers help to break up the purple, reds and oranges.

We are to get cooler temperatures this week and, we will be heading into what is known as monsoon season where we get tropical moisture from the south, meaning rain!  I am hopeful that that combination really gets my garden going even better!
There are still some plants yet to bloom later in the season!

I hope to share some photos of the front garden and the cucumber garden soon. So, stay tuned!
