My New Gardening Shed

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we were going to spend
the Memorial Day weekend moving a shed.
This shed was included in the sale when we bought our home 8 years ago.
It sat at the back of the, very much abused, side yard.
The side yard was where everything
we didn't know what to do with,
had replaced or was broken.
went to live,
with the exception of my gardening bench,
more on that another time.

It is also where the A/C unit sits,
and a storage bin and my water barrels
reside.
And my former spray paint station.
Pretty impressive, no?
No, it is not!
It is just a messy and useless
part of our property.
Not at all what I like to see!

Now, Mr. B's dream house would have

included a three car garage.
Room for both of us to safely park
our cars
and additional space for him
to be able to do the woodworking and
home brewing that he loves!

8 years ago a house

with a three car garage was not in our budget!

He has been a trooper

and when he wants to work
on his hobbies he pulls the cars out of the garage
and then has to set out all of his equipment.
It's a hassle and I knew
he wasn't happy.
Therefore, a few months ago
I suggested that if we moved the shed
he could use the vacated space
to build himself a shop.
Me and my big ideas!

Well that got the wheels in his ole brain
a spinning!
The plans now include the pouring
of a concrete slab
for his new space to sit on,
electricity,  of course,
and a door from the back of the garage into
the workshop.
Yeah, me and my great ideas...
Mr. B and I do make a great team
when it comes to projects but,
moving the shed was a bigger,
let's call it adventure,
than I had imagined.

Because of a large maple tree in the way
the shed was going to have to
be taken apart and
moved to here.
(so not gonna miss seeing that ugly fence)

And put back together.

First we had to empty the shed

as well as move some of the crap
stuff around it.
All covered with a tarp
to protect from weather and
cotton from the cottonwood trees that surround our home.

Mr. B assessing the project.

We have come to learn

that nothing comes easy with this house,
and that was so with the shed.
Instead of being nailed or screwed together
it was held together
a gazillion and twenty staples.
Long staples.

This meant that Mr. B was
going to have to beat it apart
with a sledge hammer and then
cut the staples with a sawsall.

Hard. Hot. Work.

I was in charge of fetching tools and
ice water.
I also had to help move the walls as they came off.
When I told Mr. B I didn't think I could lift the
front wall, the heaviest piece,
he looked me dead in the eye and said
"I know you can".
And, I could and, I did.
Once we got to this point we decided to call it a day.

The next day, Sunday, was a much cooler day.
We were rested and ready to go.
Mr. B took a strap and wrapped it around the shed,
threw the strap over his shoulder
and pulled it from against the house!
That's my strong like bull hubby!
Step back gals, he's taken!
From there, we just worked steadily as
the pieces all came off.

The easiest part of the project was moving
the bottom piece over to it's new home.
We were kind of concerned about what
we would find behind where the shed was.
We were quite surprised to find no mice.
No snakes (thank you sweet baby Jesus! That would have ended it for me!).
Just decomposing leaves and spiders.

From that point it was just
like putting a puzzle together.
No staples this time though,
Mr. B screwed it back together.
Of course that did mean
he had to cut all of the gazillion and twenty staples off first.

But, finally, progress was being made.

And thus ended day two.

Monday, Memorial Day,

Mr. B worked alone.
He didn't want my help.
He wanted me to have at least one day off
for the long weekend.
He had already arranged to take the
rest of the week off from work
for this project.
We were pretty happy that it didn't take
as long as we thought.
It wasn't as easy as we had hoped it would be
but, it was moved.

I did take pictures of his work though.

He had to put a new roof on.

 Put the trim back on.
Put a new porch floor down.
While I was at work on Tuesday he put
new shingles on the roof and
it was done!

He took the rest of the week and

cleaned up the area
and rested.
The following weekend
I added my touches and
I LOVE my new little garden shed!
She cleaned up real nice!
I added a window box with flowers
a bench, which is the very first thing
Mr. B made for me 8 years ago,
(do I repaint or leave it chippy?)
and a pink weathered pot with mums for a pop of color.
I didn't take photos of the inside
but we got rid of a ton of stuff
and now my gardening tools
are easy for me to get to.
Mr. B added a few shelves
making it even more organized!
I do want to make a sign for the door
but haven't come up with what
I want it to say.
Do you have any ideas??
It may take some time, and money,
but now Mr. B can draw up the plans
for his dream workshop!
I may have some ideas of my own...
