A few years ago I worked
a trade show in Portland, OR
and Mr. B tagged along.
It was at that time we were
introduced to food trucks.
We didn't get a chance to eat
from any of them but
some of the offerings
intrigued us!
Thai, Mexican, Italian
the list went on and on.
At that time, Denver
just had the usual construction site
type of food trucks.
You know, sketchy burritos
and warm drinks kind
of trucks.
The ones, not so affectionately,
known as
Roach Coaches.
Fast forward to this past weekend
and, imagine our delight
when Mr. B found out about this
It is a group of local food trucks
that gather together once a month
somewhere in the city limits of Denver.
It can be a different group each time.
Luck would have it that this
past weekends gathering was not terribly
far from our home so
we decided to go.
Oh Em Gee!
I am so glad we did!
There were about 12 different vendors
in attendance.
Food choices ran from your basic cheeseburger
to the more exotic
rattlesnake & pheasant hot dog.
Mr. B & I make a good team.
Instead of both of us ordering something,
we would make a choice and share.
If we had not done it this way we would have been stuffed
full at the very first truck!
The first truck we ventured to was
Instead of saving the best for last,
we lucked into having
the best first!
The arepa is a homemade corn based flatbread
that is formed into a patty
then grilled, baked and stuffed with a variety
of delicious ingredients.
We chose the reina pepiada.
It is an arepa filled with shredded chicken breast,
avocado and a citrus-avocado dressing.
Such a tasty party in your mouth!
I am craving one right now just looking at the photo!
The photo above was taken just when
they opened up.
An hour later, the line was crazy!
Next up was
Now, neither Mr. B or I
have ever been to the south but,
we heard from several people that
these biscuits would make a displaced southerner
pick up the phone and call his mama!
We had The Franklin
Tender buttermilk fried chicken, bacon and cheese, smothered
with sausage gravy on the lightest biscuit ever!
Dee-Light-Ful!
By this time
people were flocking in!
I thought us two old foggies would be
out of place but we weren't.
Every age and demographic was represented.
It added such a fun vibe!
We all were there for one common reason,
good food!
Time to cleanse our palette at
Aiko Pops
Aiko Pops
We chose to go with a gourmet popsicle!
And the flavor we went with was
Avocado Orange
I know what you are thinking.
C'mon Kath, an avocado popsicle?
Yeah, really!
We are not talking avocado tasting like
guacamole flavors here.
I cannot even begin to explain how good this was!
Just a hint of citrus and a
creamy mouth feel.
So refreshing!
Next time I am trying the Apple Blue Cheese.
And the guy working the cart?
Hilarious!
In fact, all of the vendors were super
nice considering the heat and the crowds!
We made the rounds checking out what we wanted to try next.
We tried an Asada street taco from
The Korean
from Stick It Too Me
At this point, I must have entered a food coma
because the rest of the photos I took,
didn't turn out or, I just forgot to take them.
I can tell you that we did not try all of the
food. There was no way!
We missed out on the rattlesnake & pheasant hot dogs
(drat! not really. somethings I will not try!),
the vegan truck, the cheeseburger and the sushi trucks.
The final truck we did hit was the
So many choices!
Do I go the pie route or
jump right into a cupcake?
Guess...
One bite into the maple bacon cupcake
and the clouds parted,
angels began singing
and I was in a
sugar coated heaven!
A lighter than air maple flavored
cupcake with chunks of salty real bacon,
topped with a fluffy maple buttercream frosting!
GACK! TOO.GOOD!
I wish I had a photo to show to you!
Oh, I know, I will find out where they are going to
be next and, because I love you,
I'll buy another and get that picture of it!
Er, unless I wind up shoving
it into my mouth again...
We cannot wait until next month
to see what new trucks will be at the next gathering!
How about you?
Have you tried the wonderful food truck cuisine
in your town or while traveling?
I'd love to hear about your food adventures!
