I'm A CopyKath

I'll admit it. Whilst perusing other blogs, whenever I see some inspiration I like, I'll pin it,  thinking someday I'll try my hand at it.  Normally, they just languish in my Pin boards, waiting for me to take a look and, perhaps get off my rear and, get my craft on.

That was NOT the case when I saw this beautiful wreath Chrissy from Hoot Designs made!

How cute is this??? I fell in love with it the instant I saw it!

Last summer, when we were up at Mr. B's parents place, his mother and I had gathered up a ton bunch of pinecones for me to use for decor and crafting.  When we got home, I put them in the BBQ, heated up to 250 degrees, for half an hour to make sure nothing insecty had made the trip home with us.
So, I knew I had plenty of pinecones to steal borrow Chrissy's creative genius.  Yep, I loved the wreath she made so much I was going to try and copycat it for our front door.

First, I made a beeline to Target and snagged up a few of the toadstool ornaments for myself while they were on clearance.  I also picked up a few other ornaments, such as birdhouses. They didn't have any of the cute birds left but, I collect bird items so I knew I had something at home close.

I also hightailed it to Michael's, gift card in hand, and purchased a 18" straw wreath.

When I got home I exchanged some emails with Chrissy, making sure I understood the process she used to put the wreath together.

She is truly such a sweetheart!

Before I heated up the trusty glue gun, I spray painted the wreath a coat of white paint.

I then retreated to my craft room and began gluing on the pinecones.

Once I had the pinecones all on, I spray painted it all lightly with more of the white paint.

Now I know somewhere in this house I have a gazillion snowflakes of every color and design.  Of course, when I need them, I can't find them. Well actually that's not true, I'm pretty sure they are in one of my Christmas bins up in the rafters of the garage.  There was no way I was going to ask Mr. B to take them all down again since he had just put them all up there so, I had to go a different route than Chrissy's wreath.

I used some green frosted picks I found in one of my, yet to be organized, craft bins! I added the toadstools, a colorful birdhouse and a small birdie.

My total cost to create this lovely wreath? $1.80!  Yes!  The only money out of pocket was for the two toadstools and the birdhouse.  Everything  else I had on hand or, as in the case of the straw wreath form, I used a gift card.

Admittedly, mine is not as bright as Chrissy's but, she provided me with a huge jumping off point.  I cannot thank her enough for giving me the inspiration to create a pretty winter wreath for our front door!
I strongly urge you to go pay Chrissy's blog a visit!  Her brain is just full of creative ideas!  In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll be stealing borrowing ideas from her again the future!
