When I was gathering items for my beach mantel decor I ran across some ceramic sand dollars that I had picked up, somewhere, sometime. I don't even remember where they came from! Does that happen to you?
When I saw them, I remembered, that many years ago, my mother had a shadow box with a real sand dollar in it with a poem that was on the wall in the hallway of our home. I remembered walking past it many times and stopping to read it. I knew, when I found my faux ones, that I wanted to create a tablescape with the legend of the sand dollar poem as my inspiration.
I used my go-to thrifted woven placemats and then layered on an oversized dinner plate I got at Goodwill several years ago.
They are an off white and there is a very thin brown band around the edge.
A rounded edged square salad dish comes next, with a sand dollar placed on top along with a copy of the poem.
Flatware from Bed Bath & Beyond and a fringed napkin and woven napkin ring, both from World Market, on the left.
With thrift store goblets, that reminded me of water bubbles, on the right.
Each place setting also has its own shell with sand and a tea light candle next to it.
For the centerpiece I filled a large round vase with sand and sea shells and a chunky pillar candle.
Anchored on each side with teal candleholders from World Market.
Here is the The Legend of the Sand Dollar poem for you to print out if you'd like:
Beautiful isn't it? Now you can see why I remember it so fondly!
Like what you saw today?
